Jan Švankmajer – Jabberwocky
Me reconozco un perseguidor de los objetos viejos, sobre todo si se trata de muñecos. Es curioso como el tiempo les otorga poder y como la imaginación les provoca contar tantas historias, ahora cuando estos se encuentran en escena, resultan más divertidos, quizás algo extraños. Encontré este material realizado por el cineasta checo Jan Švankmajer, es un corto basado en el poema "Jabberwocky" del escritor Lewis Carroll y la verdad que me divertí mucho y confieso que mi imaginación echó andar.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
'Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!'
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought--
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
'And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

Jan Švankmajer (Praga, Checoslovaquia, 4 de septiembre de 1934) es un artista y creador cinematográfico checo, de temática principalmente surrealista. Es conocido sobre todo por su trabajo creativo en el campo de la animación, donde mezcla diferentes técnicas, como el stop motion y el rodaje en imagen real, para crear obras inquietantes y sugestivas que pueden ser interpretadas de diferentes formas.
En sus películas, Švankmajer trabaja con muñecos, utilizando la técnica de stop-motion. No obstante, ha empleado también actores reales, máquinas, figuras de arcilla, muñecas antiguas, esqueletos de animales y otras muchas cosas. Consigue crear un clima de pesadilla, lo que no impide que sus filmes sean, al menos en cierto modo, divertidos. Se ha inspirado en las obras de autores literarios como Edgar Allan Poe, Lewis Carroll y la leyenda germánica del Doctor Fausto.
Jabberwocky (1972), escrito y dirigido por Jan Švankmajer, es basado en "Jabberwocky", un poema sin sentido escrito por el británico Lewis Carroll, quien lo incluyó en su obra Alicia a través del espejo (1871). Jabberwocky es generalmente considerado como uno de los mejores poemas sin sentido escritos en inglés.
